What is the “MSGSO”?

The Marine Sciences Graduate Student Organization is a community of graduate students who are currently in the process of completing graduate degrees in Marine Science at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab.

Who are the members?

All graduate students in residence / doing research at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab who are enrolled in one of the member universities of the Marine Environmental Sciences Consortium.

What does it do?

The MSGSO works to facilitate communications between the faculty / administration of the Dauphin Island Sea Lab and the graduate students. In addition, we help with Sea Lab events (such as Discovery Day and Spooktacular), work with other graduate student organizations to promote the annual Graduate Student Symposium, promote community awareness, and plan fun events for our members.

Why should I care?

Participation in the MSGSO benefits the community, the Sea Lab, your fellow graduate students, and you.

Do I have to participate in every event?

All members are encouraged to participate in every MSGSO event; however, the demands of graduate school and life in general will occasionally prevent someone from participating in an event.  We understand; after all, we are all in the same boat.

How much time is this going to take up?

You can contribute as much or as little as you want.  The greater the contribution, the greater the rewards.

Is it all work?

Not at all, just look at the activities page or pictures from the last event.

How do I get involved?

If you are a graduate student working at of the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, you are already involved.  Ask your friends about the next event
